It took a year and a half of planning and preparation before Sloka could be started. Ms.Nirmala Diaz, Mr.Suresh Kuppu and Mr.Satish Kocharekar, the Founder Trustees of Sloka, had a series of events organized to create awareness among parents. Teacher training began six months before Sloka started and we were fortunate to have a 5-year commitment from Ms. Tina Bruinsma, an experienced Waldorf teacher from Holland, who was with us for six months of each of those 5 years. Ms.Bruinsma trained and worked with our teachers and helped us set up the school.

Sloka opened its doors to 19 children and 4 teachers on July 3, 1997. It was the very first Waldorf School to be started in India. Our goal was to provide quality education with sensitivity and a deeper understanding of the child and a Steiner Waldorf school was the answer.
